![]() Ensemble's decision to nerf Spain's Fortress-Age shipments when Spain's shipments is kind of their core mechanic is one of the most confounding game design decisions I've encountered in a lifetime of playing computer games. Look, the game balance isn't terrible, but Spain was an early powerhouse Civ, relying on their high shipment rate to develop a nigh-unbeatable fast fortress. It's the players that make the civ so there are objectively worst players depending on game type but not objectively worst civ. ![]() Its a learned skill, you can get better at the game, change your play style since civs by themselves don't change. Some civs scale really well late game but struggle in early game and vice versa so if the game ends before 10th minute, you can argue that late game civs are bad for this game type but it's the player who played it that way. Some civs are easy to master but others are not which might make them worst for some particular playstyle. There is no objectively worst civ since its all subjective for each particular play style. So civ also plays a crucial role depending upon game type. I for one suck at 1v1 but do very well in team games. The difference is very subtle in AOE3 but felt every team game. currently rank 1 doubles players are rank 163 and 184 in singles) and rank 1 singles player is ranked 140 in doubles, AOE3 also have players that are good in one game type, 1v1 and team. ![]() Just like top ranked tennis players differ between 1v1 and doubles (for e.g. It depends on the player (play style), game type (1v1/ team in Supremacy or treaty or death match)
